Our Key People
Ashley is the founder of the Catalytic group of companies. He is Chairman of Catalytic Holdings Pte Ltd, the CEO & CIO of Catalytic Funds Management Pte Ltd and a member of the Board of Directors of Catalytic Funds VCC.
He founded Catalytic Funds Management in September 2009 after more than 25 years in capital markets in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand - a majority of those years with Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank. His experience as a multi-asset and multi-strategy fund manager, coupled with time spent as an investment banker, research analyst and stockbroker, extends across the capital structure (equity, debt and derivatives) in emerging as well as developed markets.
Ashley’s previous positions have included being the Asian Regional Head of Corporate Research at Bankers Trust (now Deutsche Bank), the Asian Regional Equity Sales Head at Credit Suisse and a Head of Equity Research at Barclays/BZW (now Credit Suisse).
Ashley is a CFA charterholder, a Fellow of CPA Australia, and holds an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management. He is a New Zealand citizen.
Dr Anita Smith
Anita is member of the Board of Directors of Catalytic Holdings Pte Ltd, Catalytic Funds Management Pte Ltd and Catalytic Funds VCC.
Anita joined Catalytic in 2009 and co-ordinates the firm's multi-family office practice where the combination of her hard skills in analysing investment products, and soft interpersonal skills, are best utilized. Her interests in private wealth management led her to pursue a doctorate in that field.
Prior to that Anita worked at Societe Generale and in the Office of the President at Bangkok Bank where she helped coordinate a bank-wide restructuring with consultants Booz Allen Hamilton.
Anita holds an MBA from London University and a Doctorate from the University of Leicester (UK) where her thesis “Power, Work and Learning in Private Wealth Management” is the first study of its kind undertaken in Asia’s private banking sector. She is a British citizen.
Andrew is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Catalytic Funds VCC.
Andrew is founder and CEO of the Banner group of companies which he founded in Australia in 2007, including Banner Capital Management Limited, which collaborates with Catalytic on the Catalytic-Banner 1st Mortgage Fund.
Banner Capital Management is a fund management company licensed by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission and specializes in the management of financing real estate development projects in Australia.
Andrew has over 25 years of global financial markets experience having worked extensively in capital markets specializing in derivative products. He has extensive banking and financial expertise and has worked in London, Tokyo and Australia with leading international institutions. He is a British citizen.
Brett is an alternate director to Andrew Turner on the Board of Directors of Catalytic Funds VCC.
Brett is a Director and Head of Legal and Compliance at the Banner group of companies. He has provided legal advice to the banking and funds management industry for over 20 years as a partner in legal firms and as a partner with KPMG. He has founded and managed commercial mortgage funds for the past 15 years. He has sat on investment and credit and advisory committees for several funds.
Brett holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Law from Monash University in Australia. He is an Australian citizen.
Ambassador Joerg Reding
Joerg is a member of the Board of Directors of Catalytic Funds VCC and a member of the Investment Committee of Catalytic Funds Management Pte Ltd.
His decades of diplomatic, economic and financial experience provide an independent view of the strategic direction at Catalytic Funds VCC and the investment decision making process at Catalytic Funds Management.
He was the Swiss Ambassador to South Korea from 2012 to 2016 and to Singapore and Brunei from 2008 to 2012. From 2006 to 2008 he was in charge of Switzerland’s economic cooperation program worldwide, a Governor of the Asian Development Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the African Development Bank, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (World Bank) and Deputy Governor for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. From 1999 to 2006 he was an Ambassador-at-large, Member of the Executive Board and Chairman of all Swiss international bilateral economic commissions. He retired from Swiss government service in 2016.
Prof Dr Vikas Tibrewala
Vikas is a member of the Board of Directors of Catalytic Funds VCC and a member of the Investment Committee of Catalytic Funds Management Pte Ltd.
His areas of specialization are strategy and marketing. He has consulted with leading organizations and lectured at senior executive seminars around the globe and across sectors. He is currently Adjunct Professor of Management at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland and previously served for 20 years on the Faculty of INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. In addition, he has taught at Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University) as well as Carnegie-Mellon University. He was a Founding Faculty Member of the Moscow School of Management.
Vikas holds a PhD from New York University and an MBA from Cornell University.
Prof Dr Deep Kapur
Deep is a member of the Investment Committee of Catalyic Funds Management Pte Ltd with which his association goes back to 2012 when he was Chief Investment Officer.
Since 2017, he has been a Professor at Monash Business School (Monash University, Australia) and Director of the Monash Centre for Financial Studies. Prior to that he was an investment banker.
His 30-year institutional investment experience spans both systematic and discretionary strategies across all major asset classes. He was Managing Director and Global Head of Quantitative Strategies at Citigroup, advising large institutions on risk management, investment strategy and asset-liability management. More recently his research and principal investing interests have expanded to venture capital, illiquid credit, alternative finance and impact investing.
Deep’s behavioural finance interests earned him a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University where his thesis argued against the efficient market hypothesis. He is an Australian citizen.
Shu Kai Hu
Shukai is Head of Compliance and Operations for Catalytic Funds Management Pte Ltd.
Shu Kai joined Catalytic in 2012 after 12 years as a financial adviser with Prudential, an auditor with Deloitte & Touche and a fund accountant/administrator (with Custom House Administration).
He is responsible for monitoring compliance with internal guidelines, Monetary Authority of Singapore regulations and Singapore securities law.
Shu Kai holds a Bachelor's degree in Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University and is a Chartered Accountant. He is a Singapore citizen.
Yohei is a Portfolio Manager with Catalytic Funds Management Pte Ltd.
He joined Catalytic in 2020 and co-manages the Catalytic Liquid Opportunities Fund with Jay Shah in addition to his responsibilities of looking after the portfolios of ultra-high net worth clients. Prior to this Yohei worked with a boutique fund manager in Singapore and at the financial advisory arm of Deloitte Touche in Tokyo where he assessed M&A opportunities and developed financial models.
Having grown up in Tokyo and been educated in Tokyo as well as the US, Yohei speaks expert level Japanese and has prime responsibility for Japanese clients in the wealth management unit.
Yohei holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Economics and Accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a Japanese citizen.
Jay is a Portfolio Manager with Catalytic Funds Management Pte Ltd.
He joined Catalytic in 2015, sharpened his skills in various asset classes under the CIO, and now co-manages the Catalytic Liquid Opportunities Fund with Yohei Suzuki in addition to his responsibilities of looking after the portfolios of ultra-high net worth clients.
Like Yohei, Jay grew up in Tokyo and was educated in the US, Jay also speaks expert level Japanese and shares prime responsibility with Yohei for Japanese clients in the wealth management unit.
Jay holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Economics and Accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is an Indian citizen.
